Back in April of 2003, the Conscripts held their last "all day" tournament event at the late and lamented Little Wars Game Shop in Fairfax, VA. Store owners Faron and Alena Betchley had for years graciously opened early (and stayed far too late) to accomodate two rounds' worth of tournament action every April. Able Conscript Jason Cameron was on hand with a digital camera to capture the event. Consider this, then, a tribute of sorts to our time at Little Wars . . .

- Chris Baer (right) makes the cardinal error of closing his eyes during the all-important Scenario Selection Phase as Dave Fenick ponders his choices. Please ignore the non-regulation counter storage system on the table in the foreground.

- Dave Fenick (whom we haven't seen at a club meeting in ages -- please phone home, Dave!) settles on that old chestnut, T1 Gavin Take.

- Duncan McGill (left) and Bill Stoppel in one of the marquee matches of the mega-tourney day. This is Bill before he left the One True Church of Plano to become a RAACO heretic.

- Another angle on the Duncan McGill/Bill Stoppel match. And you thought only newbies used the scenario status chart thingie . . .

- Troika-member Doug Bush carefully studies his plan of attack, but in truth he's anxious to get the match over with so he can play Munchkin or Napoleonic Wars, both of which are barely hidden behind him.

- This is some scenario being played by two guys. Rather messy counter placement, not at all up to Conscripts standards.

- Joe Jackson (left) and Rob Modarelli simultaneously search out yet another DM counter, all the while oblivious to the egregious violation of Safety Rule #3b -- no open liquids with higher gravitational potential energy than the board.

- "I just like to make pretty designs with the counters," says Roni Hourihane. That's Mark Guttag holding up a new style QRDC in the background.

- How many Conscripts can you spot in this picture? Stu Rubin (right) looks stumped as he tries to figure out why he let Jan Spoor (left, with beard) talk him into playing an airdrop scenario, TAC1 Can You Go Down to Maleme? Meanwhile, Paul Schill (center, background) looks up and wonders why Jason is walking around taking all these pictures. And that's Mike O'Leary trying to imitate Stu's stumped look. Oh, and that's Forrest Atterberry over Stu's left shoulder.

- Looking toward the front of Little Wars, we see owners Alena and Faron Betchley to the top left; Doug Bush and Bryan Kropf talking in front of the door; some ubiquitous minis guys in the middle; then (left to right) Forrest Atterberry playing Joe Jackson, Mark Guttag playing a friend of his whose name escapes everyone's memory (but if you guys came to more meetings. . .), and Dave Fenick channeling General Gavin against Chris Baer; and finally Stu Rubin's left shoulder and Roni Hourihane's right shoulder.

- That could only be A41 OP Hill that Aaron Krebs (left) and Mike O'Leary are playing. Note the annoyingly small dice cup used by Mike O'Leary and the action shot of Stu Rubin in mid-roll.

- Eventual 2003 Club Tourney Champ Bill Pittman packs up the Planos after another hard-fought victory. You can see the relatively close quarters we had at Little Wars, but it was truly our gaming home.
